The Banknote Museum is situated on the first floor of the historic building which housed the first branch of the Ionian Bank in Corfu and is one of the few and most complete museums of its kind in the world. The collection which is being continually enriched comprises: - A virtually complete collection of Greek Banknotes from the first that were printed in 1822 up until the last that were withdrawn from circulation in 2002 with the advent of the Euro (In all there are some 1500 specimens). - Drawings, proofs and printing moulds for various Greek banknotes. - Archive material (documents, account books, cheques, stamps, photographs etc.) connected with the history of the Ionian Bank. - A complete series of the last banknotes issued by the states of the Euro zone prior to their replacement by the Euro.
